My first impression of this video was: Loving Choi Minho’s body, what the hell am I looking at? Key as always starting fashion trends, I missed them together, Onew is still adorable!

My first impression of the song was: (on Jessi Showterview) okay, ah like the simple chorus — can’t wait to hear the full thing, (on Knowing Bros) Ooo this sounds nice, (when I heard the full thing) I don’t like it, the chorus I was looking forward to has been disrupted with English. I was disappointed.

SHINee is and forever will be, a five-member boy band under SM Entertainment. The members are Onew; leader & main vocalist, Jonghyun; main vocalist, Key; lead rapper, lead dancer, sub vocalist, Minho; main rapper, sub vocalist, visual and Taemin; main dancer, sub vocalist & maknae. Jonghyun, unfortunately, passed away in December 2017. Now on to the song. ‘Don’t Call Me’ is their very first release as a group in about 2 years.

Here’s how I feel about it. Things I liked: I like Minho’s first outfit; [insert still of Minho] man’s body up. It was good hearing Onew’s voice again, [insert audio of Onew singing his part] as well as the group together [insert part of chorus]. Some of (?) Minho’s parts feel out of place. Let’s be honest here, all of his parts didn’t do it for me. The choreo is nice, though [insert clip of dance]. And I will say Onew looks very cool in the video [insert clip of Onew in video].

Things I didn’t like: The use of English is a bit off-putting [insert entire intro]. That repetitive base beat is overpowering! [insert audio with base sample] Like loud and distracting. I hoped the song was going to be about a badass rejection of those fake people trying to get your attention, or at the very least, rejecting the tabloids; it being a ‘love song’ or ‘break up song’ was disappointing.

As for the video: I don’t get the video, then again I am one for videos telling a story with the song. so my expectations are irrelevant. On the other hand, the song is an interesting take on a typical subject, so there’s no need for a corresponding story. That being said, the imagery is nice. It just has no real point, I think. I honestly like it because of how much I like the group and the parts that I enjoy are too tangled with the parts I hate. So, I’ll either never listen to it after this, or I will continue to listen until I like it unconditionally.

The LYRICS: I just can’t stand the “yo’ll” [insert graphic of the word]. It is already a word!! Did no one check the English spelling?? I don’t like beginning English speeches in general, so this just made the song start with an even more bitter taste in my mouth. I really, really hate Minho’s verse [insert visual clip of part of verse]. He still sexy, but is that enough to distract me?? [insert graphic of the word NO] This is my conclusion, they are trying to appeal, more so than before, to an international audience and therefore have made this song easy to understand and mimic.

And here are some extra thoughts in no particular order:

  • The lyrics are lame but sonically, the vocals are great.
  • The ‘Mood Sampler’ is wonderful. [insert poster image of mood sampler] I’m guessing the visuals are for the entire album and not just the title track, but it does amp up the anticipation.
  • The teasers [insert images of each teaser] appear to be extensions of certain scenes that are already in the video. Nothing to report there.
  • Except that, unfortunately, those scenes were some of the cooler parts of the video. So, to get only moments of them in the official mv after getting such theme setting teasers is just strange.
  • There are some headpieces [insert headpieces mentioned] that make me tilt my head a little, but other than that, I think the costumes were cool.

Well, we’ve come to the end of whatever this is. Thanks for watching thus far. Since you here tek d time to look at the red and blue button below. You can just look, dem nuh important. While you’re there, you can check the black line and mek mi know wah you see. After that you can look for me in another video. Bye.
